How To Avoid Using The New Facebook Messenger App

Facebook has started rolling out the new Facebook Messenger App and as a result has quietly annoyed a number of Users.

For those that access their Facebook messages via mobile device, many do not like being pressured to download the App in order to view existing or new messages. This along with the situation that the App appears to have taken control of a number of privacy elements on mobile devices, has left some Facebook users questioning if they will continue to use Facebook at all.

For those that are stuck with what to do, here is a couple of possible solutions. ~

Firstly if you don't like it - don't use it!  You can still inbox message friends on a pc, which doesn't use the messenger application.

For those that Need to communicate via mobile device on Facebook, here is a work around that may assist you.

In your Settings feature go to
  •   Timeline and Tagging
  •  Who Can See What Others Post On Your Timeline
  • Use the drop down menu and Change this to 'Only Me'.

(the screenshot below is taken on a PC - your mobile account settings have the same option)

Basically if you and your friends have this setting arranged, then each time a friend sends a specific post to your timeline - only You can view it.

So if you and your friends put this Setting into place, the conversations your friends specifically post on your timeline will only be seen by you and them.

Here is how it works -

Once the settings are in place.  Go to your friends Timeline and Post into their Status Box.
Example: As per pic below.  I have navigated to my friend Mary Kay Hoal's profile, ready to Post on her timeline in the status box provided. (where it says 'Write Something').

If Mary Kay has the same privacy settings in place as stipulated above, the posted comment will only be seen by her and me.  All comments added under this is will be like a private conversation between the two of us.

If you have Notifications set up correctly, you will also be notified that someone has posted to your timeline.

So in other words it is just like receiving a notification of an inbox message to your mobile phone, but you are using the Facebook platform instead.

Another Option: (although not a perfect solution and can be troublesome) is to post using the Custom setting on the Audience Selector.

If you are posting a message on your Timeline you choose the specific person who can view your post.  But be careful with this as you do not want to Tag. Tagging can allow friends of friends to view the information. You will also need to keep switching your Custom posts between different people to view them. So as I mentioned not ideal and can be troublesome.

I hope this assists you in a work around in lieu of downloading the new Facebook Messenger App.

Oh and by the way feel free to copy the Safety Settings on the screen capture for your Timeline and Tagging privacy section.. they will help with better management of your Facebook account!
